QHSLS RL Block #3 Begins (Spring Break Updates)

Block #3 (Days 11-16) begins Wednesday, April 8th and ends Wednesday, April 15th. Governor Cuomo and Mayor DeBlasio announced last week that remote learning will continue over Spring Break. This means that teachers will be assigning work to complete. However, there will be a break! There will only be ONE assignment students will need to complete each day from 4/9-4/17.

We will also have optional “In This Together” Challenges and Journal Prompts that students can engage in, individually or together with their families. See the following calendar for details, and check school email daily for videos connected to these challenges. Share your pics by emailing studentinfo@qhsls.org or posting on Instagram with #QHSLSInThisTogether. (School Instagrams: QHSLSPRIDE and QHSLS.ART)

QHSLS April Remote Learning Calendar (updated 4/5/2020, English on p. 1-2, Chinese on p. 3-4) All assignments for Block #3 will be due Wednesday, April 15th. Block #4 begins on Friday, April 17th.

See this list of optional activities for additional ideas for what to do.

Please note these important updates:

Teachers will be using Google Meet/Hangouts or Microsoft Teams to meet with students remotely. The NYCDOE has determined that Zoom is no longer allowed for student use due to privacy concerns. Students should continue to check Google Classroom for meeting links or contact faculty to set up appointments.

Faculty Availability and Office Hours (updated 4/6/2020)

June Regents exams have been canceled. According to NYS Guidance, students will be granted exemptions from taking this exam ONLY IF the student has earned a credit for the course leading up to the exam. In addition, if a student has failed to earn this specific course credit, they can take the course this coming summer to receive this Regents exemption.

Translations of all NYCDOE letters can be found here.

Please note we will be communicating with our 12th grade students most affected by this new policy change. For our students in grades 9-11, be sure you are completing the work in all your classes in order to receive both credit for the class and the Regents exam exemption.

I’m also thrilled to share this stunning piece of artwork (blackout poetry, assigned by our visual arts teacher Ms. Gray) from our student Juntian Huang. His work is an inspiration for all during this time of crisis.
