The First Day of School: Information for Monday, September 13, 2021

Dear QHSLS Students and Families,

On Monday, September 13, 2021, we welcome our QHSLS students back into the building for the 2021-2022 school year. We are so excited to have our students in-person again!

The First Day of School, Bell Schedule, and Programs: Students report for their first day of classes on Monday, September 13, 2021. Period 1 begins at 8AM, and our doors will open at 7:50AM. QHSLS staff will be outside our entrance, closest to Union Street, starting at 7:30AM.

Student programs are now available via Pupilpath and will be distributed on paper to students on Monday. Please note we will spend the first hours on Monday orienting our students to the new school year. All students should report to school by 8AM. QHSLS faculty will direct students to their assigned classrooms for orientation on Monday morning.

Our bell schedule has changed. Please see the updated bell schedule here

Daily Health Screening: Prior to entering the building, all students must complete the DOE’s daily health screening found here and be ready to show confirmation. Should students need help, we will assist on Monday morning. Students must complete this every school day, so please make this part of your morning routine!

Breakfast and Lunch: “Grab and go” Breakfast will be available on Monday, the first day of school, outside our entrance beginning at 7:30AM. We will be asking students to eat breakfast outside before entering the building.

Beginning on Tuesday, students can eat breakfast in the cafeteria from 7:30-7:50AM. No eating will be allowed in classrooms while class is in session.

Lunch will be “grab and go” in the auditorium this school year. Please note our 9th and 10th grade students eat during Period 7 (12:48PM) and our 11th and 12th grade students eat during Period 8 (1:36PM). Please plan to eat a solid breakfast.

Juniors and Seniors: We will review our policy for out-lunch on the first day of school.

DOE Health and Safety Guide: Please take the time to read the DOE’s COVID-19 Safety and Health Guide for Families found here. You can find more detailed information about testing, what will happen if there are confirmed positive cases in schools, and how to stay safe.

Mask Mandate and Vaccination: Regardless of vaccination status, everyone must wear a mask in school per NYC Department of Education guidelines. Masks should cover the nose and mouth snugly and comfortably. We will have masks available should anyone need one, but we are encouraging students to wear masks that they have already tried and fitted.

While vaccination is not required to attend NYC public schools, we and the NYCDOE are strongly encouraging COVID-19 vaccination for anyone over the age of 12. You can find more information about COVID-19 vaccines, and how to get one here

Every school serving students over the age of 12 will have an outdoor pop-up vaccination site offering the Pfizer vaccine. More information, including consent forms available in all languages, can be found here

Metrocard, Uniform and Device Pick-Up: We will continue to distribute MetroCards to students on Monday, September 13th. Students can continue to purchase additional uniforms and pick-up devices the first week of school.

New students will receive one free uniform t-shirt. Additional t-shirts are $12, and hoodies are $28. Students must wear QHSLS t-shirts or hoodies to help faculty identify our students on our campus. Should purchasing uniforms be a hardship, please email us at info@qhsls.org

Computers and School Supplies: This school year, it is important that all students have wifi and a computer with a keyboard at home. If you need to request a computer or a WIFI hotspot, please use this Google Form. Please note that students should not bring computers to and from school.

If you have questions, please email info@qhsls.org. See you soon!
